PCB Assembly

TMS offers a full range of PCB assembly services for both Surface Mount (SMT) and Through Hole (TH) components in an ESD safe manufacturing facility. All components are kept in humidity controlled storage.

Our Pick & Place machine will automatically place SMT components from 0402 to QFP/BGA. For smaller quantities we hand place SMT components using our precision pneumatic digital solder dispenser.

SMT components are soldered using an 8 zone convection reflow machine and for TH components we use our SN100C wave soldering machine. We use a computerised Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) system to check each board pre and post assembly.

SMT components are positioned on the PCBs using our precision Pick & Place machine which can place up to 3000 components per hour. We use Indium 8.9 Type 4 lead free solder paste with high quality stainless steel solder screens for PCB printing.

We have over 80 feeders capacity on our pick and place machine ranging from 8mm to 32mm Tape sizes and matrix tray loading. All SMT assemblies are reflowed using our 8 zone convection reflow oven which will reflow PCB’s up to 300mm width.

TH Assembly

TH components, radial, axial and connectors, are soldered to the PCBs using our high speed wave soldering machine which can process board widths of up to 350mm. The wave soldering machine uses lead free SN100C solder for all Through Hole components.

We use pre-forming and leg cutting machines for axial lead components to ensure the correct length and bend radius, this also prevents damage to the component body and in addition this gives a neat and professional finish to the assembled PCB.

Conformal coatings and potting options can be specified by the customer on all PCB’s.

Batch Traceability

All PCB’s are uniquely identified prior to assembly using a printed polyimide label. These labels are used to record details about the assembly during and after production.

We use Polyimide labels because they are heat and chemical resistant and can withstand the high reflow temperatures and ultrasonic cleaning processes.

All labels produced by TMS can be customised to include QR and Barcodes, logos, textual and numerical descriptors.
